  • My Turtles Equipment

I have an adult male, 5", Southern Painted Turtle. He housed in a 40 Gallon Breeder Aquarium, with 33 gallons of filtered city cold tap water. The aquarium is resting on top of a 40 gallon cabinet stand from Petco, Aqueon Filter Canister 200GPM, Aqueon Pro Heater 70W, Mega Ray UVB/UVA bulb mounted to an adjustable height stand, and a ZooMed Large Dock. There are a couple of large artificial floating plans with a large long artificial vine and 1" stones on the bottom glass. He moves and pushes things around on the bottom. Water temp is steady 80F.

The farther you get away from the radiated heat the closer you come to the ambient air in the room. Yes the closer to the lamp you get the hotter it feels because you hand absorbs the heat, but the air at that vidmate point isn't as hot.

The 70W Mega Ray Bulb is currently 15" above the large ZooMed dock, with surface temp at 88F. Room temp is at 73F here in Wisconsin. He is always getting the right amount of UVB/UVA. AC season, the lamp will be lowered to around 14". You cannot beat the Mega Ray bulb, IMO.
